Sevierville Convention Center Set to Host the Southern Select Alpaca Show

Sevierville, Tenn. – Pop quiz…What has no top teeth, hails from South America, stands 5-feet tall and has better hair than Jennifer Aniston? If you guessed ‘alpaca,’ you win! And this weekend, more than 600 of these friendly, wooly animals will be showing off their fancy fleece at the Sevierville Convention Center during the Southeastern Alpaca Association’s Southern Select Alpaca Show. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 and 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, is free to attend and open to the public.

Event attendees will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with alpacas from across the southeast, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. There will be free demonstrations and learning stations, including a fiber arts class and a fiber spinners/project circle.

“This will be a great event for the entire family and is one of our most popular events of the year,” says David Bobo, Sevierville Convention Center director. “The alpaca breeders do a fantastic job of interacting with the attendees, answering questions and educating everyone about this unique animal breed.”

Other events at this year’s show include a photo contest, the Hand-Crafter’s Spin-Off, Halter and Fleece shows, and the Herd Sire Breedings LIVE Auction. During Saturday’s luncheon winners of this year’s fleece show will be recognized, giving participants the opportunity to exhibit their prize fleeces throughout the duration of the show.

Also, there will be a variety of vendors on-hand selling the latest in alpaca fashion along with other hand-crafted items. For more information on the event, visit http://www.sealpaca.org/southern-select.
