KNOXVILLE, TENN. – Feb. 16, 2015 – Officials with Lawler Wood Housing Partners, LLC, have announced that Alvin Nance will be joining the company as CEO of its Development and Property Management operating divisions, effective April 1, 2015.
As part of the transition, Phil Lawson, current President and CEO, will become the company’s Chairman.
Before joining Lawler Wood Housing, Nance served a 14-year tenure as Executive Director and CEO of Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation (KCDC).
“Alvin has many years of experience in the affordable housing industry and has established himself as a well-known and highly respected individual in this field,” said Lawson. “He understands our business and has a track record as a successful leader and strategic planner. Additionally, his background includes extensive involvement with both the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), government agencies that administer the housing programs in which we work.”
Nance is active in organizations representing public housing agencies in Tennessee and the Southeast. He served two terms on the board of directors and was Vice Chairman of the THDA which handles Tennessee’s allocation of Low Income Housing Tax Credits and served on the THDA’s Tax Credit Committee.
He also served as the Chairman of the Tennessee Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities’ (TAHRA) legislative committee, and in several leadership roles for the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), including posts on its community revitalization, development and legislative committees.
“As the two largest providers of affordable housing for the City of Knoxville and Knox County, KCDC and Lawler Wood Housing have a history of working together on low-income housing issues,” said Nance. “This positive working relationship between each organization has helped to improve the affordable housing services provided to the citizens of Knoxville and Knox County.”
Through his capacity with KCDC, the housing and redevelopment agency for the City of Knoxville, Nance served on the staffs of Mayors Victor Ashe, Bill Haslam and Madeline Rogero. Incredibly active in the business and philanthropic community, Nance has served on the boards and in leadership capacities of the following: Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, First Tennessee Bank, Covenant Health Hospital System, Knoxville Area Urban League, Knox County Industrial Development Board, Project GRAD, Boy Scouts of America, Greater Knoxville First Tee Program, Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, Dogwood Arts Festival, Maryville College, YMCA and Emerald Charter School.

Nance is a graduate of Maryville College and resides in Knoxville with his wife, Jacquelyn. The Nances have a daughter, Jessica and grandson, Dallas who reside in Atlanta and a son, Alvin II, who lives in Nashville.
