Free Community Shred Day sponsored by ORNL FCU scheduled for February 7th in Knoxville and Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge, Tenn. – ORNL Federal Credit Union (ORNL FCU) will team up once again with Cintas Document Management Company for a Community Shred Day on Saturday, February 7th from 9:00 a.m. until Noon at both the Millertown Pike and Oak Ridge Main branches of ORNL FCU.

ORNL Federal Credit Union members, as well as the public, are invited to bring any unwanted documents, especially ones containing personal information, to one of the Community Shred Day locations and have it safely and securely destroyed at no charge.  A maximum of four boxes/bags per person will be accepted.

ORNL FCU’s Millertown Pike Branch is located at 5409 Millertown Pike in Knoxville.  The Oak Ridge Main Branch is located at 221 S. Rutgers Avenue.

According to authorities, crimes of identity theft are a growing problem as a person’s identity can easily be stolen simply by placing personal documents in the garbage rather than having them properly destroyed.  “Thieves will rummage through garbage looking for anything to create a new identity for committing crimes,” said Bronce Rodgers, VP of Loss Mitigation at ORNL FCU.  “The most common forms used for identity theft are credit card applications, bank statements, or completed tax forms, and the stolen information can then be used for a variety of fraudulent transactions.”

ORNL Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative locally owned and operated by its members for the benefit of all who belong.  Established in 1948 with 10 founding members, ORNL Federal Credit Union’s assets have grown to over $1.57 billion and membership has grown to over 165,000. Open to businesses and anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in the 16 counties of Central East Tennessee, ORNL Federal Credit Union currently serves members in 32 branches located throughout Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Hamblen, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Roane, Sevier, and Union counties.
