ETMG Sponsors “Be the Match” Family Fun Night Sat. July 14

ALCOA, Tenn. – East Tennessee Medical Group will sponsor a “Be the Match” Family Fun Night on Saturday, July 14 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at John Sevier Pool, 1998 Sequoyah Ave., Maryville.

This evening will celebrate the recovery of Claire Hayes, William Blount High School senior and two-time cancer survivor. Additionally, attendees will be given the opportunity to register as bone marrow donors.

Hayes was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma bone cancer in 2010. Following numerous rounds of chemotherapy and a hip/femur replacement, she was pronounced cancer-free. However, a year later, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. In the past year, she has undergone further chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. She is on her way to recovery and attributes her success to bone marrow donation.

Bone marrow donor registry requires a quick and painless cheek swab. Family Fun Night will include multiple practitioners present to perform this simple procedure. A $5 entrance fee covers admission to John Sevier Pool. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Babi Mac. Pizza, cold drinks, and desserts will be available at additional cost.

East Tennessee Medical Group is a 45-provider multi-specialty medical group in Alcoa, serving Blount County for over 15 years.
