On this week’s episode of Sweet Tea and Strategy, we sat down with Ed Pershing, Co-Founder and former CEO of PYA. PYA is the 13th-largest healthcare management consulting firm in the U.S., with 370 employees between the main firm and its affiliates. Ed Pershing founded PYA, then Pershing and Yoakley CPAs, in 1983 with accounting colleague Doug Yoakley.
Pershing recently retired after 36 years at the end of 2019, but he’s not leaving the healthcare industry behind just yet.
“One of the things I hope to do now that I’ve stepped down and retired from PYA is spend more time writing,” said Pershing. “I really want to write a series of editorials about what we’re facing.”
Pershing is active in his community. He was a founding board member of Tennessee’s first Ronald McDonald House, a graduate of Leadership Knoxville, former board member of the Knoxville Chamber, board member and past chairman of the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, and serves on the Haslam College of Business’s Anderson Center of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He was also named the Haslam College 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year.
On the future of PYA, Pershing said, “with the level of talent we’ve been able to recruit, our multiple offices and our reach, I think we’re going to be an ever-growing voice in the healthcare industry.”
