KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Oct. 7, 2021The Salvation Army anticipates a 61% increase in requests for help in the community this Thanksgiving season due to the pandemic. They are challenged to meet the needs of 1,083 or more family members and neighbors in Knoxville this Thanksgiving.
Last year, The Salvation Army of Knoxville served 428 family members, but the pandemic and economic challenges have more than doubled that number. Families are now becoming one the fastest growing segments of the homeless population. Many will turn to The Salvation Army for help and hope this Thanksgiving and holiday season.
“The Salvation Army will be there for those in need, providing shelter, meals, food, and other critical assistance for all who might otherwise go without,” said The Salvation Army’s Major Cameron Henderson. “We are hopeful that the Knoxville community will pull through and help us provide these necessities to families during the holiday season.”
