KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Feb. 20, 2020 – SafeSplash Swim School will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. The Knoxville swim school is owned by Olympian and Knoxville native, Davis Tarwater. Tarwater won a gold medal for the 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Tarwater and Molly Hannis, former UT swimmer and member of Team USA, will be at the grand opening signing autographs and Team USA swim caps. There will also be a photo opportunity with Tarwater and his Gold Medal. Catcher Yan Gomes’s Washington Nationals World Series replica trophy and his Silver Slugger Award, given to the MLB catcher with the highest batting average will be on display as well.
Other activities and food will be provided by The Little Gym of W. Knoxville-Farragut, Smart Toys and Books, Pure Barre Knoxville/Farragut, Bruster’s of Knoxville, Title Boxing Gym, Rachel Kinney Studios and Making Faces Face Painters.
Tarwater is excited about applying his passion to teaching young children to swim.
“Swimming is a wonderful sport but also an important life skill,” said Tarwater. “We want to teach kids to swim early to promote water safety among young kids. I believe SafeSplash will open the door to the fun sport of swimming for a lot of kids in this community.”
SafeSplash is the official school of USA Swimming and is focused on teaching children as young as six months old to swim. Parents can watch lessons from the climate-controlled viewing area. SafeSplash’s curriculum is tailored to children of any and all abilities but also welcomes adults who want to learn to swim for the first time.
In addition to its warm water, in-ground teaching pool, the state-of-the-art facility features two Endless Pools™, known as Swim Labs, the only one in the entire state.
